Why is my Tax Bill so high?
Please note that the County stormwater fee (included in the "Other Assessment" portion of the tax bill) increased for the payable 2021 tax year. Most county parcels increased from $35.16 annually in 2020 to $75.76 annually in 2021. If you have any questions regarding stormwater fees , please call 812-349-2117
There are multiple factors that affect property taxes, and many of these can change from year to year. These factors include (but are not limited to) assessed value, deductions, tax rates, and other assessments, which include stormwater fees and liens filed against the property. Details regarding these factors are shown on the TS-1A statement that was mailed with the property tax bill. This statement has the words "SPECIAL MESSAGE TO PROPERTY OWNER" at the top and also shows differences between the current and previous year.
