Floodplain

If you are looking for information and maps showing whether your property is located in floodplain or floodway areas, there are a number of resources available to you:
The first map in the list is the key map for the county - use this map to determine which panel of the map you need to view to see your property, then find that panel lower on the list.  These maps are the same maps available for review in the County Highway Department.
On this website, you may search for your property by street address or by zooming in on the map.
Once on the website, search for your property via owner name, property address, tax parcel ID number, etc. in the light blue drop-down box near the top right corner of the page.  To view floodplain location, click on the fourth icon from the left near the top right corner of the page (yellow box with green check marks).  In the new pop-up menu, click on the black dot with white arrow next to "Layers", then scroll down the list to "Floodway IDNR" and click in the checkbox to the right to turn on the layer.  You may need to zoom in closer to your property in order for this layer to appear on the screen.
  • The latest DFIRM Maps/floodplain paper maps are available to review at the County Highway Department, located at 2800 S. Kirby Road Bloomington IN 47403 (812 349-2555).
If you need a letter from a local government representative regarding your property with relation to the floodplain, please contact the Planning Department at 812 349-2560, or the County Surveyor at 812 349-2570.  If you have other questions, please call the Planning Department.
