PHASE II IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MONROE COUNTY URBANIZING AREA PLAN

September 7, 2016—Monroe County, IN— The Monroe County Urbanizing Area Plan Phase II is now available to view: http://www.monroecountyurbanizingareaplan.com/. The Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on October 18th at 6 PM in the Judge Nat. U. Hill Meeting Room in the Monroe County Courthouse. The Plan Commission is taking the first round of written public comments through October 4, 2016, which can be submitted via email to the Monroe County Planning Department (jnester@co.monroe.in.us). Public comments can also be made at the October 18th hearing.

The second phase of the Urbanizing Area Plan is meant to offer a framework for updating the current zoning ordinance to make zoning code more predictable and clear. To help understand the plan, the consultants, MKSK, offered examples of how the phase II plan would be used in practice at the August 16, 2016 Plan Commission meeting: http://catstv.net/m.php?q=3477. The Herald Times also covered the meeting in an article titled “Consultants: Simplify zoning in areas just outside the city”. The phase II document will go to the Plan Commission for a preliminary and a final hearing, which will both include public comment. The Planning Department will be adding updates on Facebook, Twitter, our website, along with a notice in the Herald Times.

The Planning Department wants to include your ideas, either through online engagement or in-person conversations. Our online platform includes new discussion questions on Granicus, and regular updates on social media. In addition, Planning Department staff is available for walk-in comments/questions from 8-4 PM Monday-Friday at our office located at 501 N Morton Street, Suite 224, Bloomington, IN 47404.

You may submit comments on Granicus, or via email at jnester@co.monroe.in.us. Hard copies of the plan are available at the Monroe County Planning office. For other Monroe County Planning documents, check our website, or call (812) 349-2560.
