The Monroe County Plan Commission is an advisory body to the Board of County Commissioners. The Plan Commission reviews development proposals (e.g., subdivisions, rezones) and conducts comprehensive land use planning for the county. In this role, the Plan Commission utilizes the help of sub-committees, such as the Rural Community Advisory Committee, the Plan Review Committee, and the Plat Committee. Each of these entities has a separate, specific charge.

The Plat Committee is responsible for reviewing plats that are proposed as minor and major subdivisions.

All meetings of the Monroe County Plat Committee are held in the Health Services Building, Meeting Room at 3 PM.
The Plan Review Committee reviews zone change requests, as well as monitoring the effectiveness of the
Comprehensive Plan and making recommendations thereon and hears proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance.
The Rural Community Advisory Committee reviews projects within the designated Rural Communities of Stinesville, Smithville, Sanders, Harrodsburg, and Ellettsvile. This group meets on an as needed basis in conjunction with the Plan Review Committee.
