Fullerton Pike Corridor Minimize

FULLERTON PIKE CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS

FULLERTON PIKE CORRIDOR -  The Monroe County Highway Department has initiated a study to extend Fullerton Pike and improve adjacent local roadways on the south side of the City of Bloomington.  The proposed Fullerton Pike improvements will extend from SR 37 to the east to South Sare Road, and will utilize portions of the existing West Fullerton Pike, West Gordon Pike, and East Rhorer Road.

FULLERTON PIKE CORRIDOR PROJECT UPDATE  - March 15, 2016

PHASE I

The proposed project will consist of road reconstruction along Gordon Pike and Rhorer Road, beginning approximately 465 feet west of the intersection with Walnut Street and extending east for 0.54 miles to a point approximately 225 feet east of the intersection with Walnut Street Pike. The project is located in Monroe County, at the edge of the city limits of Bloomington, Indiana.

The proposed reconstruction will primarily consist of a 3-lane section (including center two-way left turn lane), with additional turn lanes proposed at the intersections of Walnut Street and Walnut Street Pike. The roadway will include curb and gutter at the outside edge of the travel lanes, and the installation of a sidewalk along the south side of the corridor and a multi-use path on the north side of the corridor. An on-street bicycle lane is proposed from the west end of the project to Walnut Street. Reconstruction of Walnut Street Pike approaching Rhorer Road is also included with the proposed improvements, to improve geometric deficiencies and intersection operations.

The specific goals of the Phase I project are to address intersection operations at the Walnut St / Gordon Pike intersection (congestion), both now and following the completion of a connection to SR 37 / I-69; to improve vertical stopping sight distance west of the intersection at Walnut Street Pike; and to improve the safety of the corridor for pedestrians through the introduction of continuous sidewalk and multi-use path through the corridor, for eventual connectivity to the multiple bicycle trails along the larger corridor.

The letting date for Phase I is 8/10/2016

(INDOT sets the letting dates and it is at their discretion to change this date at any time)

PHASE II

The proposed project will consist of road reconstruction along Gordon Pike, beginning approximately 500 feet west of the intersection with Rogers Street and extending east for 0.25 miles to a point approximately 465 feet west of the intersection with Walnut Street. The project is located in Monroe County, at the edge of the city limits of Bloomington, Indiana.

The proposed reconstruction will consist of a 3-lane section (including center two-way left turn lane). The roadway will include curb and gutter at the outside edge of the travel lanes, and the installation of a sidewalk along the south side of the corridor and a multi-use path on the north side of the corridor. The project includes a roundabout at the intersection with Rogers Street and a bridge replacement over Clear Creek east of Rogers Street.

The specific goals of the Phase II project are to address intersection operations at the Rogers St / Gordon Pike intersection (congestion), both now and following the completion of a connection to SR 37 / I-69; to replace the bridge at Clear Creek to accommodate the proposed corridor typical section and creek hydraulics; and to improve the safety of the trail crossing at the Bloomington Rail Trail.  The letting date for Phase II is tentatively set for 7/2018.

Future phases of Fullerton Pike have yet to be designed.

This is to be the design for the railing on the Pedestrian sidewalk on Phase II of the Fullerton Pike Bridge #74 project.
