The Monroe County Health Department (MCHD) assists the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) in the regulation of infectious waste which is generated within the county. The ISDH has taken steps to ensure the proper disposal of these wastes by requesting area generators to report their disposal practices to the department. Upon contact, information is supplied to generators regarding proper disposal practice and approved disposal alternatives.
The majority of area small generators contract with several commercial disposal firms who provide infectious disposal services to the area. Local Health Department staff works closely with State Health representatives in investigating all suspected violations and ensuring treatment and disposal according to the Indiana Infectious Waste Rule.
