Bed Bug Survey Results Minimize
Monroe County Health Department 2011-2014 Bedbug Survey Results

The Monroe County Health Department surveyed public citizens, business owners and pest control companies to investigate the prevalence and scope of Monroe County's bed bug problem from 2011 - 2014.

Survey responses from citizens totaled 151 and were highest in 2011 at 77.   Of the 18 responses in 2014, only 11 said they experienced bedbugs in their home.  Most bedbugs were identified by a professional exterminator or by citizens using a picture from the internet. While some citizens tried to treat the bugs on their own, most used a pest control provider.  All used multiple methods to help reduce and/or guard against infestations.

The Pest Control Provider survey received 10 responses.  On average, the providers said that it can take 2 or more treatments to treat a home for bedbugs.  Respondents also said they used chemicals or a combination of methods to treat a home.  They had not found bedbugs to be resistent to treaments used.

The Business survey was completed by 16 respondents.  Eleven said they experienced bedbugs within their establishment.
