Survey of Bloomington Area Businesses:  A Study of Plans for Expansion and Views on Conditions for Business in the Bloomington Area
In early 2004, the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC) at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business undertook a study of local businesses at the request of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and the Monroe County Plan Commission (MCPC). The MCPC and the BEDC sought research assistance to aid in planning and managing their efforts to support the local area’s economic development; in particular, they desired information about local organizations’ needs for space, their plans for workforce and facility expansion, and their views on a range of issues that affect businesses’ prospects for success.

To provide the requested information, the IBRC conducted a survey of businesses and non-profit organizations in the vicinity of Bloomington and Monroe County. The report that follows details how the study was conducted and its key findings.
