The Monroe County Health Department’s Tobacco Cessation & Education Program focuses on implementation of the Indiana Tobacco Prevention & Cessation 2010 priority areas:
2010 Priority Areas
- Decrease Indiana youth smoking rates
- Increase proportion of Hoosiers not exposed to secondhand smoke
- Decrease Indiana adult smoking rates
- Increase anti tobacco knowledge, attitudes and beliefs necessary for smoking behavior change to occur
- Increase Indiana's tobacco tax to reduce adult smoking and prevent youth smoking
- Maintenance of state and local infrastructure necessary to lower tobacco use rates and thus make Indiana competitive on economic fronts
The Monroe County Health Department’s tobacco cessation program focuses on disparate population tobacco use rates. Disparate population defining factors include: Income, ethnicity, educational level, lifestyle and access to services. These factors contribute to higher smoking rates for disparate populations.
The Monroe County Health Department is a member of the Monroe Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition.
