Monroe County Correctional Center
(Jail)
The Monroe County Correctional Center occupies part of the first, the entire fourth and fifth floors of the Monroe County Justice Building. The Correctional Center moved to its current location in March of 1986. At that time the Center was designed for an inmate population of 124 and a suggested full-time staff of forty-five. Double bunking of many of the cells brought the secure housing bed count up to the current 183. The average population for 2005 was 236 with 231 of those being processed into the housing areas of the Center. The Correctional Center staff (consisting of 48 full time staff) are responsible for maintaining security and safety, admission and release of offenders, offender transports, services, activities and programs as well as filling various support activities. The Center monitors the alarm systems and responds to alarms originating in the Justice Building's lobby, seven courts, Court Services, Probation, the Public Defender's office, Prosecutor's office and the Clerk's office. Center staff also transport and monitor juveniles for Monroe County Probation. The lobby of the Correctional Center is located on the west side of the building (in the alley). James L.
